Mission 5: Our Biggest Mission Yet
📅 Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th May
This Mission 143 Deer Culled – 880 kgs of Mince
Our fifth Stoney Creek Hunt for Good mission was a huge success. Despite some wet weather to kick things off, the team pulled together and got the job done. We brought in 143 deer and turned that into 880 kilograms of wild venison mince for local communities. That’s another 5,850 servings ready to be shared, taking us past 3.9 tonnes of venison mince donated so far. That’s over 26,000 servings to date!
The crew arrived on Friday afternoon for a safety briefing and to go over the plan. The weather was a bit rough, with rain and slippery tracks, but three teams went out to scout and still brought in 16 deer to start things off.
Saturday morning turned out fine. Everyone headed off to their hunting areas after checking their radios. The teams worked hard and brought in solid numbers. By lunchtime, we had 79 deer hanging and ready for processing. After another full-on evening hunt, we ended the day with 130 deer total.
Sunday was a bit more chilled out. We flew the drone to see what else we could find, although fog made it hard to spot anything. Even so, we brought in 13 more deer, finishing on a high note with 143 in total. That’s a new record for Stoney Creek Hunt for Good.
Massive thanks to every volunteer who came along. Everyone worked hard, looked out for each other, and helped make this our most successful mission yet. Also, a big shout out to Michael Bogalo for capturing the weekend on camera.
We do this to help feed our communities and manage wild game in a responsible way. It’s hard work, but when you’ve got a team that cares, it all feels worth it. On to the next one.
